Bushido Business

Privacy policy

Bushido Business (“the app”) is published by Gear Studio. This policy explains which data the app and this website use, why, and the rights of players. In short: only the data the game needs is kept, data is never sold, and there are no ads or trackers.

Data controller

Bushido Business is a hobby project. Gear Studio is not a company: it is the name under which one individual publishes apps in their free time. This individual is the data controller. Questions and requests can be sent to bushidobusiness@gearstudio-hub.com.

Guest play

The app can be used without an account. In that case, progress stays on the device only, and no data about the player is received, except when a bug report is sent (see below).

Data collected with an account

With “Hide My Email”, Apple gives a random address that forwards to the player’s real one, and the real address is never received. Email addresses are never shown to other players. Other players only see the display name, the avatar and the weekly XP.

Bug reports

The “Report a bug” feature sends the message, an optional contact email, the app version, the current screen, the language and the device type. To block spam, a one-way scrambled version of the IP address (a hash) is also kept, never the address itself.

Beta survey

During the beta, a button in the app opens an optional survey hosted by Tally. The survey is anonymous: it asks no name or email address, and its answers are not linked to the player’s account. They are only used to improve the app, and are deleted once they are no longer needed.

Emails

Sign-in links requested on the website are sent from noreply.bushidobusiness@gearstudio-hub.com. This address does not receive replies. No newsletters or marketing emails are sent.

Messages sent to bushidobusiness@gearstudio-hub.com are only used to reply and to improve the app.

Data stored on the device

The app saves progress and settings on the device so it works offline. Daily reminders are scheduled on the device by the phone’s system, and no information about them is received.

What the app does not do

  • No advertising, and no advertising identifier.
  • No analytics or tracking tools in the app, and no cross-site tracking on this website.
  • No selling or renting of data, and no sharing for marketing.
  • The microphone is not used in the current version of the app.

Service providers

A few trusted services are used to run the app. They only process data to provide their service.

  • Supabase: database and accounts (sign-in, progress, profile, ranking, bug reports).
  • Google: “Sign in with Google”, and the fonts displayed in the app.
  • Apple: “Sign in with Apple” on iOS.
  • Resend: sending of sign-in emails.
  • Cloudflare: anti-spam check (Turnstile) on the website sign-in, and forwarding of emails sent to the contact address.
  • Tally: beta survey (optional and anonymous).
  • Vercel: hosting of the website and of the web version of the app, and anonymous audience measurement of the website.
  • Apple and Google: distribution of the app through the App Store and, when available, Google Play, under their own privacy policies.

Some of these services may store data outside the player’s country, including outside the European Union. In that case they rely on the safeguards required by law, such as the European Commission’s standard contractual clauses.

Account data is used to provide the requested service (performance of a contract). Bug reports and the scrambled IP address are used for the legitimate interest of fixing problems and blocking abuse.

Retention

  • Account, progress, profile, friends and ranking data: until the account is deleted.
  • Bug reports: as long as needed to fix the problem, then deleted. Deletion can be requested at any time.
  • Beta survey answers: as long as needed to improve the app, then deleted.
  • Emails received: as long as needed to reply and to improve the app, then deleted. Sooner on request.

Rights

Players can access, correct, export or delete their data, and object to or limit its use.

  • Sign-in methods: in the app, Settings, Account, to link or remove Apple and Google.
  • Self-service deletion: in the app, Settings, then “Delete my account”. The account, cloud save, profile, friends and ranking are deleted permanently.
  • Other requests: by email to bushidobusiness@gearstudio-hub.com. Requests are answered within one month.

Players in the EU can also lodge a complaint with their data protection authority (in France, the CNIL).

Children

The app is not intended for children under 13, and their data is not knowingly collected. An account created by a child will be deleted on request.

This website

This website uses no cookies or trackers and loads no third-party content. Visits are counted anonymously and without cookies by Vercel Web Analytics (page viewed, referring site, country, device and browser type). Visitors are not identified: the anonymous identifier changes every 24 hours and IP addresses are not stored. The host keeps standard technical logs (such as IP addresses) for a short time for security.

Any change to this policy updates the date at the top of this page. Important changes are also announced in the app.
